Pro Tip: For asking ?'s (by jrdraga)I have been seeing this again lately and wanted to share this in hopes that it will help out all the newer members..
When asking a ? or whatever you are posting type the title to your ? or statement in the small top box (max about 145 characters including spaces).. type the ? or whatever into the big box.. that way your ? will not get cut off.. Be sure to post your entire statement or ? in the big box and not wait to post it in a comment after you make the post..... Also if you have a link post it in the big box of the ? and not in an answer after the ? has been posted.. that way the link does not get lost in the answers.. Be sure to still answer the ? though if you want to for the points...
Also when posting a ?, answer, or reply please do wait for it to post and don't keep hitting submit.. that is the cause of all the double, triple, etc... posts......

How to clean up duplicate threads/posts/replies (by CaveSpectre)
If you accidentally post twice, you can "flag" your own post by clicking the embossed flag button. It is best if you respond that you flagged it before you flag it, so someone doesn't flag the other one.
This will tell others that it's a "doubletap" (see here: http://id.glock.com/answer/question/view/id/108829 ). They can then continue the flagging process until the post is deleted and the board stays nice and squeaky clean.

2 things about downvotes:
1: Everyone please just ignore the downvotes and trolls... the more they get brought up the more they happen.. if you ask most of the members that have been around a while they could not even tell you what their total downvotes are cause we don't even look at it anymore.... there is no reward for downvoting and no negative effects on anyone who receives a downvote.. so please just ignore them cause you know those that downvote have to get joy when they hear themselves talked about .. And we all know they do not have the testicular fortitude to own up and say why they downvoted you.
2. Check out this link.. I posted this the and have sent it via A2A to the only known Glock employee on GID.. It's my petition to have downvotes removed from GID
http://id.glock.com/answer/question/view/id/65466
Other then that that's all we can do .....
Glock did a poll about DV's so hopefully that means they are finally going to listen and remove them

Smashius’ Unsolicited Advice: Community Q&A
When asking a question:
Type or copy and paste your question into the field under ‘What would you like to know?’
Then stop.
Look at the questions that have already been posted under the ‘Is one of these your question?’
If you see a question/comment already listed there with the same title as what you are about to post, chances are that it’s the same article/comment/question. Open it to double check.
If you feel the need to post it again for additional responses, then at least note the link of the previous post so people know it’s a repost and don’t have to answer again, or can at least look and see the comments others have already posted on that topic.
If you are posting it solely for your 10 points and don’t really care what people have to say about it, then post something that hasn’t already been posted instead. Keep it fresh.
I assure you, the search function is much better than people give it credit for.
Pro Tip #1: If you are looking for a video that you think may have been posted before, just search for the YouTube code (ie: Zq6y7EuA4AY), and if the video is posted in the ‘Additional Details’ field (like the majority of us do), then the post will come up in the search results and you’ll save yourself a repost.
Pro Tip #2: Pro Tip #1 will also work if you post article hotlinks in the search field as well.

Smashius’ Unsolicited Advice: The Mendax Patches
It’ll cost you anywhere from 10k to 40k points if you are ‘awarded’ this patch. You will also loose the ranking that goes along with those points. So ya, you don’t want it.
These patches were/are given for gaming the Glock ID system, with one round of the going out around March 1st. Titans5150 was in this group and received a Mendax patch, so maybe he’ll have something to add at some point. The last known round of patches went out on April 1st (according to Echo5), so presumably the patches are still active and could be given out.
Gaming could be considered things like adding every gun to your safe, falsifying range time, etc…
Currently it might be looked at for things like spamming questions to receive the patches; upvote party threads (perhaps even good morning/good night threads which are just essentially upvote parties anyway), and the like.
The administrators seemed to fix most of this with point caps and reductions, but there is still activity that could get you a Mendax patch…or so the legend is told….

Smashius' Unsolicited Advice: Titling Posts with Video
When you are posting a video, either directly from youtube or linked from another site, please make your post title the same as the youtube video.
If your linking a post from another site (guns.com, etc..) that has a youtube video embedded in it, just go directly to youtube to find the title.
This makes is much easier to search if someone is looking, and also much less likely to post a video that's already been posted.
I've seen it a couple times today and would have posted duplicates if I hadn't searched the youtube code itself.
Also:
Also if you use the 'share' url on the video page, as opposed to just a copy and paste of the URL, you get a much cleaner link.
Example of the same link:
URL Copy and Paste - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAW3dlTMv6g&feature=share
'Share' - http://youtu.be/pAW3dlTMv6g

Questions:
When you ask a ? you should go back and look at it and give some +1's to at least some of the answers that you like or are relevant to your ? and when you are answering a ? you should do the same. I am not saying that you should +1 to everyone who answers (unless you want to) but show some +1 to the good answers. I have noticed a lot of ?'s lately where all the answers are at 0 except for the 1st answer. Also noticed quite a few ?'s where people asked the person who asked the original ? a ? so they could give them a better answer and the person never bothered to respond to any of them. Take it for what it is worth. just would like to see people show more caring towards those that answer their ?'s and the others on the site. I mean a +1 to a legit good answer takes all of less then 1 second and will make someone feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Member Driven FAQ...(5/17/13 Edition)Basic Q&A Etiquette:
When you post a question, be sure you go back and +1 the appropriate answers, and to at least give the perception that you actually wanted an answer to the question you asked. Much of the time a question will generate discussion and more questions, and nothing kills the thread faster than not coming back and providing more responses.
As a general rule I upvote every response in a question that I asked as I appreciate the members taking the time to respond to my comment or inquiry. The community can decide from there what is upvote worthy and what isn’t.
There is a maximum of 100 points per day for questions asked, which equates to 10 questions. Do not flood or spam the board with all 10 questions (or more). Spread them out. People will like you more.
All about A2A (Ask to Answer):
You can join the A2A program once you receive 500 upvotes. You will receive the option to join via a pop-up. Accept and make sure that the ‘Ask To Answer’ box is ticked in your Glock ID Settings. At that point you will be able to ask others to answer specific question(s), and they will be able to ask the same of you. Any question older than 24 hours is eligible, and will have a link at the bottom 'Ask for an Answer'.
The notification that someone has utilized A2A and asked you a question will come via your email.
Pro Tip: Don’t permanently delete your A2A emails. Let your email thread or organize them so they are easy to count and you’ll know how many you’ve received and how many you need.
There are 3 patches associated with A2A:
Wise Guy (1 A2A's) - 550 pts
Mentor (10 A2A's) - 2750 pts
Sage (50 A2A's) - 5500 pts
Glock ID has a Daily Point Limit of 6k points. Be mindful of this when asking for and acquiring your A2A’s. It’s best to only ask for a few at a time. If you receive all fifty A2A’s in one day and get all the patches in one day you will not get all the points due to the daily limit. Make sure you manage your points to avoid this point loss scenario.
Pro Tip: Note in the thread how many A2A’s you sent the person. That way, it’s easier for them to note what they are getting should they not their email open, and easier for others to see if they are getting too many.
Generally Frowned Upon Behavior:
Upvote parties – These are threads solely dedicated to obtaining upvotes. Don’t do that. At least be creative in some way and don’t make the posts a blatant plea for upvotes.
Good Morning/Good Night Threads – These are pretty similar to the upvote party threads. They don’t really provide any information and aren’t inquisitive in any way, so it comes off as begging for points. Don’t be that guy. Again, be a little more creative.

How to use the search function
The search function picks up keywords in the title and the OP, while excluding all replies.
This is the reason that it's recommended to post the article/video title in the 'Question' field, and the actual link in the 'Additional Details' field.
If it's gun related news that isn't from the last 24 hours, chances are someone has posted it. Take a few seconds to search the title, link, or maybe another importatnt keyword (name, city, police department, etc..) to see if it's there.
Pro Tip #7: If you are looking for a video that you think may have been posted before, just search for the YouTube code (ie: a2gCFOtaZPo, as extracted from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2gCFOtaZPo), and if the video is posted in the ‘Additional Details’ field (like the majority of us do), then the post will come up in the search results and you’ll save yourself a repost.
For example, and I'm gonna pick on scout here, if you title your post:
"VERY GOOD NEWS: From the "D".........."
As opposed to:
"Young leukemia patient serves as Detroit police chief for a day"
What usually happens is that some, if not many, of the members just skip over the post and don't read it. Assuming that you're posting it to actually solicit responses because it's something you find interesting, the goal should be to bring in as much traffic as possible to increase the responses.
* I picked on scout because he has the most reent example of this...and because he does it all the time with articles and videos ;-)
Related Pro Tips:
Pro Tip #3: If you are reposting or following up on an already posted question or post, please post a link and explanation in your repost/follow up.
It just makes sense to have all the replies on a certain topic tied together. If you're too lazy to do that, note it and another member is likely to help.
Pro Tip #4: It is generally frowned upon posting several questions in a short period. Please do not flood the board with multiple questions. Space the questions out. It is generally desired to post no more than 2 questions in a row and 3 in the last 17.
Pro Tip #6: When you are posting a question. If it is more than 145 characters long (including spaces) copy and paste it into the ‘Additional Details’ box so the whole question will display. If in doubt just copy and paste anyways.
If you check your post after you posted it (you will have to refresh the page to see the results) and see that your question was cut off just add your full question as a answer to your own question.
Pro Tip #8: Once you hit submit to post your question/answer/reply please wait for it to post. The system does have a slight delay at times. By hitting submit multiple times your post will also post multiple times. This is often referred to as a 'Double Tap' or 'Triple Tap', depending on how many times your question/post inadvertently posts.

Glockie-ing up the new threads... (A repost)
Upvoting every thread is very important, everyone should do that. That said...
Adding a physical '+1' to every response in a thread that is not yours, is NOT helpful and generally gets in the way. I like to converse and revisit many of my threads and I don't really appreciate that '+1' getting in the way every time.
If you agree with a certain post, then by all means +1 it, but please do not do it on every response.
If you're solely looking for the 1 point that you get from that, then start with older questions where the thread is dead and +1 away to your hearts content. I call this the "SCDoug way to get points".
Or +1 every response in your own threads.

Most discrepancies that we have in the threads are a result of GID etiquette, and peoples thoughts on what should generally be accepted. As such, wouldn't it be better to hash it out in public and give everyone an opportunity to provide input?
